Have you ever been in the circumstance that the power went out?
Maybe it was during a hurricane, earthquake, thunderstorm, or winter storm.
Maybe it never has happened to you.
No matter what, you should know what to do when the power goes out.
Today, I'll be telling you what to do when the power goes out at home.
STEP 1: Get your emergency kit
Your emergency kit is critical when the power goes out.
If you don't have an emergency kit, learn how to make it here.
If it is nighttime, you should get your flashlight.
If it is daytime, get your kit, and if you need anything from it, you can get it out.
Things to remember:
When the power goes out, do not open your fridge and freezer.
You want to keep your devices cold on the inside.
It won't be cold if you open it since the power is out, and the food + drinks will spoil.
STEP 2: Get out your radio
Get out your radio from your emergency kit.
Turn your radio on and start playing the weather.
A radio is helpful if you are in a hurricane or a thunderstorm.
In both situations, a tornado could form.
Your electronic devices may be able to detect a tornado as well.
STEP 3: Entertainment
You may get bored during the power outage, so you should entertain yourself and anyone else with you.
You could use paper and a pen to write or draw.
If you have a book, you could read that too.
Time will go by fast if you have something to do.
I hope those steps help you when the power is out!
